Tithi through the day
This day is called Trayodashi because that tithi was running at sunrise, which is what names a Vedic day. Right now Chaturdashi is running. Both are correct — they answer different questions.
Outside India
Right now in Jammu
Hora suggests the kind of activity that fits the hour. Choghadiya gives a broader day-planning signal.
Planetary hour

Choghadiya
Traditionally avoided for auspicious or high-stakes beginnings.
Important timing check
Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda and Gulika are not active at this moment. Check the next windows before beginning something important.
The live Hora and Choghadiya follow the sunrise-to-sunrise Vedic day.
The whole Vedic day at a glance
Every row follows the same sunrise-to-sunrise scale. Alignments show which periods are active at the same time.
Why some Hora blocks are wider: daylight and night are divided separately, so their hours are not equal lengths.
The day's muhurta verdict
A muhurta score is a sum of named rules, not an opinion. Every rule that fired is listed below with the weight it carried, so a low score can be read rather than merely accepted.
Overall day strength
7/10
Auspicious
Special panchang yogas
Disha Shool
Setting out toward the North is what a Wednesday traditionally avoids. It is fixed by the weekday alone, not computed from planetary positions, so it is the same in every city.
Parihara Take coriander before setting out.
| Rule | Value on this day | Weight | Why it counts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vaara | Wednesday | +1 | Mercury rules the day — supports new beginnings |
| Tithi | Trayodashi · Shukla | +2 | Jaya (victory) tithi — favours contests, claims and launches |
| Nakshatra | Shravana | +1 | Movable nakshatra — favours travel, vehicles and relocation |
| Nitya Yoga | Saubhagya | +1 | Supportive yoga |
| Karana | Taitila | +1 | Workable karana |
The weights are summed and halved onto a 0-10 scale, so no single rule can saturate it. This is the same verdict the app's month calendar shows for this date.
Plan the day
These are general Panchang signals. A personal muhurta also considers the activity and the person's birth chart.
Often used for business, earnings and practical progress.
Thursday
A supportive period for considered starts, agreements and ceremonies.
Thursday
A broadly favourable midday window for important work when a detailed muhurta is unavailable.
Thursday
Often used for business, earnings and practical progress.
Thursday
Traditionally avoided for auspicious or high-stakes beginnings.
Thursday
Traditionally avoided for important beginnings; routine work may continue.
Thursday
A window traditionally left out of auspicious starts. Derived from the ruling nakshatra, so it moves every day.
Thursday
Usually avoided for journeys, ceremonies and important new starts.
Thursday
The five parts of the day
"Panchang" means five limbs. Together they describe the lunar and planetary character of the day at local sunrise.
Tithi
Lunar day
The Moon is in its waxing half, growing brighter toward the full Moon.
Vara
Weekday
The weekday is traditionally associated with Mercury.
Nakshatra
Moon's constellation
The section of the sidereal sky occupied by the Moon at local sunrise.
Yoga
Sun-Moon combination
A relationship derived from the combined solar and lunar longitudes; classified here as good.
Karana
Half of a lunar day
The half-tithi active at sunrise; classified here as good.
Hindu month
Purnimanta - ends at the full Moon
The North Indian reckoning, standard in Delhi, UP, Rajasthan, Bihar and Punjab, and the one Vikrama Samvata belongs to.
Hindu month
Amanta - ends at the new Moon
The South and West Indian reckoning, standard in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Andhra and Tamil Nadu.
Vikrama Samvata
Lunar year
Shukla paksha, so both reckonings name the month identically. They diverge once the Moon starts waning.
Ayana
The Sun's half-year
The Sun's southward half-year, from Karka Sankranti in mid-July to the end of Dhanu. Traditionally the half for inner work, vows and ancestral observance.
Ritu
Season
The Monsoon season. A ritu is two lunar months long, so it is read from the month above rather than from the calendar date — which is why it can differ from the meteorological season by a couple of weeks.
Shaka Samvata
The national era
India's civil lunisolar era, 135 years behind Vikrama Samvata and aligned to the amanta reckoning. The two can disagree for a fortnight each spring, which is why this is computed rather than subtracted.
Surya & Chandra Rashi
Where the two luminaries sit
The Sun's sidereal sign and the Moon's, at local sunrise. The Moon's sign is the one Vedic astrology means by "your rashi".
Dinamana & Ratrimana
Measured day and night
Every proportional window on this page is a fraction of one of these two spans, not of a twelve-hour assumption. That is why a daytime Hora and a night Hora are different lengths today.
Anandadi Yoga
Weekday × nakshatra
One of twenty-eight yogas fixed by the weekday and the Moon's nakshatra, so it changes exactly when the nakshatra does — never at sunrise.
Tamil Yoga
Siddha, Amrita or Marana
The Tamil almanac's verdict on the weekday and nakshatra pair. Every pair resolves to one of the three — there is no neutral state and no blank day.
Not one value each — a sequence
The cards above name what was running at local sunrise, which is the convention that names the day. None of the four limbs actually lasts exactly one day, so here is every span each of them takes between this sunrise and the next, with the one running now marked.
Nakshatra through the day
The day's Nakshatra is published as Shravana because that is what was running at local sunrise. Dhanishta is running right now. The Moon crosses one nakshatra in about 19 to 27 hours, so the segment rarely lines up with the day.
Yoga through the day
The day's Yoga is published as Saubhagya because that is what was running at local sunrise. Shobhana is running right now. A nitya yoga runs a little under a day, so it changes at a different hour every day.
Karana through the day
The day's Karana is published as Taitila because that is what was running at local sunrise. Vanija is running right now. A karana is half a tithi, so a Vedic day always carries at least two.
When the day changes
The cards above show what is active at local sunrise. This table shows the first change after sunrise; Vara changes when the next Vedic day begins at sunrise.
| Part | Active at sunrise | First change |

Key daily periods
These periods move with local sunrise and sunset. They are not fixed clock times for all cities.
Traditionally the most favourable window of the day, derived from the Moon's nakshatra rather than from sunrise alone.
Avoid beginning important work. Work already under way can continue.
Usually avoided for journeys, ceremonies and important new starts.
Use extra care with new commitments; traditions treat this as a caution period.
A window traditionally left out of auspicious starts. Derived from the ruling nakshatra, so it moves every day.
A short inauspicious span fixed by weekday. Usually avoided for beginnings; ordinary work continues.
The middle of the night, used for night observances such as Maha Shivratri rather than for daily planning.
Where the nine grahas are
Sidereal positions using the Lahiri ayanamsa — the same longitudes the tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana above are calculated from, read at the same instant.
| Graha | Rashi | Degree | Nakshatra | Pada | Motion |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sun | Leo ruled by Sun |
8° 35' 16" | Magha | 3 | Direct |
| Moon | Capricorn ruled by Saturn |
13° 39' 17" | Shravana | 2 | Direct |
| Mars | Gemini ruled by Mercury |
15° 20' 39" | Ardra | 3 | Direct |
| Mercury | Leo ruled by Sun |
6° 52' 57" | Magha | 3 | Direct |
| Jupiter | Cancer ruled by Moon |
18° 12' 02" | Ashlesha | 1 | Direct |
| Venus | Virgo ruled by Mercury |
23° 57' 24" | Chitra | 1 | Direct |
| Saturn | Pisces ruled by Jupiter |
19° 45' 43" | Revati | 1 | Retrograde |
| Rahu | Aquarius ruled by Saturn |
5° 23' 19" | Dhanishta | 4 | Retrograde |
| Ketu | Leo ruled by Sun |
5° 23' 19" | Magha | 2 | Retrograde |
Rahu and Ketu are the lunar nodes, not bodies, and move backwards by definition — their retrogression is what they are rather than a phase they are passing through.

Nalla Neram · the Tamil good-time table
The South Indian scheme, read on the same eight day parts and eight night parts as the Choghadiya above. Five of its eight periods are the Nalla Neram — the "good time" a Tamil almanac prints — and three are avoided.
| Period | Time | What it is commonly used for |
|---|---|---|
| Laabam | – | Gain. Commonly used for trade, collections and practical dealings. |
| Dhanam | – | Wealth. Used for money matters, purchases and anything you want to hold. |

| Soram | – | Sorrow. Traditionally avoided for beginnings, ceremonies and celebrations. |

Gowri Panchangam and Choghadiya divide the day identically and name the parts differently, so a period can be favourable in one scheme and not the other. That is a real disagreement between two traditions, not a calculation error — both are shown rather than blended.
All 24 planetary hours

Common questions
Trayodashi was running at sunrise, which is what names the Vedic day. Chaturdashi is running now.
Sunrise is 6:01 AM and sunset is 7:03 PM in Jammu today. Every window on this page is measured from that sunrise, not from midnight.
The Moon is in Shravana nakshatra at sunrise in Jammu, with Saubhagya yoga and Taitila karana.
Panchang timings are computed from local sunrise, so they differ by city, and a printed almanac may use a different reckoning for the lunar month. This page states which reckoning it uses and shows both.
How these times are calculated
Sunrise and sunset are calculated from Swiss Ephemeris for Jammu at 32.7266, 74.857, using Asia/Kolkata.
The five limbs begin with the values active at local sunrise. The first Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga and Karana changes are calculated above; Vara changes at the next sunrise.
Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda and Gulika use the traditional weekday segment of eight equal daylight parts. Abhijit uses the middle one-fifteenth of measured daylight. Choghadiya uses eight parts and Hora uses twelve.
The Hindu month is a lunation, not the Sun's sign renamed. Both conventions are published above because they name the same day differently through the waning half: a Purnimanta month ends at the full Moon, an Amanta month at the new Moon. A lunation with no Sankranti is an Adhika (intercalary) month and is labelled as one. Festival and fasting dates are not published here yet.
Panchang is a traditional planning framework, not a guarantee of outcomes. For weddings, surgery, legal filings or major financial decisions, use an activity-specific personal muhurta and qualified professional advice.
