Times are local to New Delhi. The Note column says when the usual rule did not settle the day on its own — a tithi that met its deciding moment on two days, or on none — and which day this page took.
Purnima is the fifteenth tithi of Shukla paksha — the full moon — and this page lists it on the day whose sunrise it touches: the day for snan-daan, the ritual bath and charity, and the day most panchangs print as the Purnima vrat. One convention differs, and it is marked rather than hidden: when Purnima has already begun by sunset on the previous day, some calendars keep the fast on that evening, when the Moon rises with Purnima in force, while the bath and charity stay on the sunrise day. The engine can tell you when that condition holds, and those rows say so; which of the two days a family fasts on is tradition rather than astronomy, so the page does not choose for you. A named Purnima that is also a festival — Guru Purnima, Sharad Purnima, Holika Dahan — is decided on its own page by that festival's rule, which is why Holika Dahan can fall on the evening before the Purnima listed here.
Purnima 2026: common questions
When is Purnima in 2026?
There are 13 in 2026 for New Delhi, all in the table above. The next: Monday, 26 October 2026 — Ashwin Purnima (Sharad Purnima); the tithi runs 25 Oct, 11:56 AM → 26 Oct, 9:41 AM.
How many Purnimas are there in 2026?
13. A lunation is about 29.5 days, so a year holds 12 or 13 of them, and one Gregorian month can hold two.
When is Guru Purnima 2026?
Wednesday, 29 July 2026.
When is Sharad Purnima 2026?
Sunday, 25 October 2026.
When is Kartik Purnima 2026?
Tuesday, 24 November 2026.
Is the Purnima fast on the same day as snan-daan?
Usually — both fall on the day Purnima is at sunrise, which is the day listed here. But when Purnima has already begun by sunset the evening before, some calendars keep the fast that evening instead. That applies to 6 of the Purnimas listed: Tuesday, 3 March 2026; Thursday, 2 April 2026; Sunday, 31 May 2026; Wednesday, 29 July 2026; Friday, 28 August 2026; Monday, 26 October 2026.
Is Purnima on the same day everywhere in India?
Not always. The day is decided at sunrise, sunset or moonrise, and all three move with the city, so New Delhi and a city far to the west or east can disagree about the day itself. Switch city above and the whole table is recomputed.
