Mukhi by birth chart

Rudraksha calculator

Enter your date, exact time and place of birth. The calculator finds your lagna and your rashi (Moon sign), takes the planet that rules each, and gives that planet's rudraksha by one table: 1 mukhi for the Sun, 2 the Moon, 3 Mars, 4 Mercury, 5 Jupiter, 6 Venus and 7 Saturn. Your lagna lord's bead leads.

Your birth details

Date, exact time and place of birth: the time sets your lagna, the date your rashi.

The lagna changes about every two hours. If the recorded time is approximate, check the lagna bead against the table below.

Your details are used to compute this result and are not saved. They are sent in the body of the request, never in the page address, and the page worked out from them is never cached or indexed, so nobody else receives your chart.

Rudraksha Calculator by Date of Birth

  • Your lagna and rashi from your exact birth time
  • The bead for each sign's ruling planet, from one stated table
  • What the Shiva Purana names each mukhi
  • How the bead is traditionally worn

A rudraksha is the seed of the Elaeocarpus tree, worn and used for japa in Shaiva tradition. Its faces (mukhi) are the natural lines from end to end, and the number of faces names the bead.

Worked example (15 August 1990, 10:30, New Delhi): Your lagna is Virgo (Kanya), ruled by Mercury: by the graha–mukhi table, Mercury's bead is the 4 mukhi rudraksha. By your rashi (Moon sign), Taurus (Vrishabh), ruled by Venus, the bead would be the 6 mukhi.

Your lagna is Virgo (Kanya), ruled by Mercury: by the graha–mukhi table, Mercury's bead is the 4 mukhi rudraksha. By your rashi (Moon sign), Taurus (Vrishabh), ruled by Venus, the bead would be the 6 mukhi.

  • 4 mukhi. The Shiva Purana names it Brahma; in the table it is Mercury's bead, worn in mind of speech, learning and trade.
  • 6 mukhi. The Shiva Purana names it Kartikeya; in the table it is Venus's bead, worn in mind of relationships, comfort and the arts.

The calculator leads with your lagna lord's bead: the lagna is your chart itself, and every house is counted from it. The rashi tables most shops print use the Moon sign instead; if your family goes by the rashi, its bead is the second line above. Wearing more than one bead on one string is common.

The mapping this calculator uses

One table, the graha–mukhi table of Jyotish remedy practice: the number of faces follows the planets in weekday order, then the nodes — 1 mukhi for the Sun, 2 the Moon, 3 Mars, 4 Mercury, 5 Jupiter, 6 Venus, 7 Saturn, 8 Rahu and 9 Ketu. The 12-faced bead, which the Shiva Purana gives to the twelve Adityas, is the Sun's alternative, and the 14-faced bead Saturn's. This site's remedy notes, reports and app use the same table.

The calculator reads it for your lagna lord first and your rashi (Moon sign) lord second. A sign is always ruled by one of the seven visible planets, so the result is a bead from 1 to 7 (or 12 or 14).

Where the table comes from: the Shiva Purana (Vidyeshvara Samhita, in its chapter on the rudraksha) names a deity or form for each number of faces, as in the table below, but no planet. Linking the beads to the planets is a later Jyotish convention, and other tables exist; this calculator follows this one and says so.

How to wear a rudraksha

These are common practices, and families differ; your own tradition comes first.

  • Check the bead. The faces are the natural lines running from end to end. Ask for a lab report that counts them. A round one-faced bead is extremely rare and widely imitated.
  • String it. On a red or yellow thread, or set in silver or gold, so that it touches the skin — at the neck or on the wrist.
  • First wearing. Many families first wear it on a Monday after a bath, chanting Om Namah Shivaya 108 times over it — the jaap counter keeps the count.
  • Care. Keep it clean and dry; customs on when to take it off differ by family.

Rudraksha or gemstone

A gemstone is given only to a planet that passes the classical gem rule, and the rule can say no stone at all; the rudraksha table carries no such exclusion. The gemstone calculator applies that rule to your chart, and the beej mantra finder gives each planet's mantra.

Rudraksha calculator — questions

Which rudraksha should I wear according to my date of birth?

By this calculator's table, the bead of your lagna lord: 1 mukhi for the Sun, 2 the Moon, 3 Mars, 4 Mercury, 5 Jupiter, 6 Venus and 7 Saturn. It also shows your Moon sign lord's bead, which many rashi tables use instead.

Should I choose a rudraksha by lagna or by rashi?

This calculator leads with the lagna, because every house of the chart is counted from it. Rashi tables use the Moon sign. Neither is wrong; if your family follows the rashi, wear that bead.

Which mapping does this rudraksha calculator use?

The graha–mukhi table of Jyotish remedy practice: 1 to 7 mukhi for the Sun to Saturn in weekday order, 8 for Rahu and 9 for Ketu, with the 12 mukhi as the Sun's alternative and the 14 mukhi as Saturn's. The Shiva Purana names a deity for each bead, not a planet.

Is a one mukhi rudraksha real?

A round one-faced bead is extremely rare and widely imitated, so buy one only with a lab report. The 12 mukhi, which the Shiva Purana gives to the twelve Adityas, is the usual bead for the Sun.

Can women wear a rudraksha?

Most living traditions allow anyone to wear a rudraksha, whatever their sign. Some families keep rules of their own, and those come first.

Can a rudraksha cure an illness?

No. A rudraksha is a devotional bead, not a treatment. Never stop or replace a medicine for one, and be wary of anyone who promises health or money from a bead.

Do I need my exact birth time?

For the lagna, yes: it changes about every two hours. The Moon changes sign about every two and a half days, so the rashi needs the time only near a change. If you know your lagna or rashi, read the table on this page.
