Worked example: flat B-204 adds up to 8 (Saturn); for someone born on 15 March 1990 it is challenging to a birth number.
B-204: B (2) + 2 + 0 + 4 = 8. The house number is 8 (Saturn).

- Add each letter at its Chaldean value (A=1, B=2, C=3, D=4 …): B-204 is 2 + 2 + 0 + 4 = 8.
- Ignore spaces, hyphens and slashes, then reduce the total to one digit from 1 to 9.
Some people add a letter to the nameplate (204 becomes 204A) to change the total; a letter adds exactly its own value. Whether a nameplate changes anything is a matter of belief.
