Moonrise in Puri today

Karwa Chauth ends at moonrise, and the day itself is decided by moonrise too — so both the date and the time below are computed for Puri rather than taken from a national listing.

Moonrise in Puri on 29 October 2026 · Karwa Chauth

The Moon rises about 50 minutes later each day, so roughly once a lunar month a calendar day passes with no moonrise in it at all: the previous rise fell just before midnight and the next falls just after. On those days this page says so in words. It does not print a blank cell, and it does not quietly show moonset or the previous day's rise instead — substituting a different instant is exactly how an observance ends up kept a day early.

Moonrise is computed from this city's own latitude and longitude for the date shown, and not read from a national table. It swings by well over an hour across India on the same evening — 19:42 in Kolkata against 20:56 in Rajkot — so an observance that ends at moonrise has no national answer.

Moonrise and moonset come from the Swiss Ephemeris for this city's coordinates and this date, from the same call the panchang itself uses — so this page and the Panchang can never disagree about when the Moon rises. A rise is kept only when it lands inside the calendar day being shown, which is what makes an empty day an honest answer rather than a bug.
