• Where these rules come from: the annaprashan rules of the sanskara chapter of Muhurta Chintamani. No large almanac publishes a computed annaprashan list for a whole year, so they are stated here in full rather than matched to someone else's dates.
• Weekday: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday (the Vedic weekday, which changes at sunrise). Never Tuesday, Saturday or Sunday.
• Nakshatra: the Moon in one of these 16 — Ashwini, Rohini, Mrigashira, Punarvasu, Pushya, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Anuradha, Uttara Ashadha, Shravana, Dhanishta, Shatabhisha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati.
• Tithi: Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami, Trayodashi of either fortnight, and Purnima. Never Pratipada, Chaturthi, Shashti, Ashtami, Navami, Ekadashi, Dwadashi, Chaturdashi or Amavasya.
• Season: none. The child's age decides the month, so there is no month, Kharmas or Chaturmas rule; only an adhika month is closed. There is no adhika month in 2027.
• Age — guidance, not computed: the texts give the sixth or eighth month for a boy and the fifth or seventh for a girl — even months for boys, odd for girls, counted from birth — and many families simply choose the sixth month. Find the month the child is in, then pick a date from it here.
• The day: sunrise to the next sunrise, for New Delhi. A day any closed period touches is left out whole; inside the days that remain, the muhurat is the time when every condition above holds at once, for at least 20 minutes.
