  • Where these rules come from: the naamkaran rules as the largest computed naming-ceremony list applies them. That list was checked for New Delhi across 2026 and 2027, and every date it prints is on this page.
  • Weekday: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Sunday (the Vedic weekday, which changes at sunrise). Never Tuesday or Saturday.
  • Nakshatra: the Moon in one of these 14 — Ashwini, Rohini, Mrigashira, Pushya, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Anuradha, Uttara Ashadha, Shravana, Shatabhisha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati.
  • Tithi: any tithi of either fortnight except Chaturthi, Navami, Chaturdashi or Amavasya.
  • Season: none — a child is named in whatever month it is born; only an adhika month is closed, as the reference list closes it. Adhika Jyeshtha, an adhika month, runs from 17 May 2026 to 15 June 2026.
  • When — guidance, not computed: the naming is traditionally held on the eleventh or twelfth day after birth, when the ten days of sutak end. A family that cannot hold it then, or holds it later — at three months or at a year is common — picks a date from this list.
  • The name itself: the first syllable usually follows the pada of the child's birth nakshatra; the baby name finder gives the syllables for a birth date and time.
  • The day: sunrise to the next sunrise, for New Delhi. A day any closed period touches is left out whole; inside the days that remain, the muhurat is the time when every condition above holds at once, for at least 20 minutes.
