Navagraha beej mantras
Beej mantra finder: by planet or rashi
A beej (seed) mantra is a short mantra built on seed syllables. Each of the nine grahas has one — the Sun's is ॐ ह्रां ह्रीं ह्रौं सः सूर्याय नमः (Om Hraam Hreem Hraum Sah Suryaya Namah) — chanted to a traditional total within 40 days. Choose a planet, or your rashi for its ruling planet's mantra, to see it with its count and malas a day.

The best-known deity mantras built on one seed syllable, as the mantra library prints them with their sources.
- Ganesha: ॐ गं गणपतये नमः (Om Gam Ganapataye Namah). Seed syllable गं. Ganapati Atharvashirsha, verse 7, which explains the seed syllable gam.
- Hanuman: ॐ हं हनुमते नमः (Om Ham Hanumate Namah). Seed syllable हं. A traditional seed-syllable mantra found in Hanuman mantra collections; no Veda or Purana source.
- Durga: ॐ दुं दुर्गायै नमः (Om Dum Durgayai Namah). Seed syllable दुं. A traditional seed-syllable mantra of Durga, used in puja manuals; no single scriptural verse.
- Lakshmi: ॐ श्रीं महालक्ष्म्यै नमः (Om Shrim Mahalakshmyai Namah). Seed syllable श्रीं. A traditional seed-syllable mantra of Mahalakshmi; the same words occur in the Lakshmi-Narayana Samhita.
- Saraswati: ॐ ऐं सरस्वत्यै नमः (Om Aim Sarasvatyai Namah). Seed syllable ऐं. A traditional seed-syllable mantra of Saraswati, whose seed syllable is aim; no Veda source.
A beej (bija, seed) syllable is a single syllable such as ह्रां, गं or श्रीं. It is not a word with a dictionary meaning; tradition treats it as the sound-form of a deity. Each graha mantra follows one pattern: Om, three seed syllables, sah, then a salutation to the graha by name — ॐ ह्रां ह्रीं ह्रौं सः सूर्याय नमः for the Sun.
- Sit facing east after a bath, ideally after sunrise.
- Chant on the graha's day, and if you can in its hora — the planetary hours page has today's for your city.
- Say the mantra once for each bead of a 108-bead mala; at the meru, turn the mala instead of crossing it. The jaap counter keeps the count on your phone.
- Keep the daily load steady for 40 days rather than chanting a lot on one day.
Mantra practice is a discipline of attention. It is not a substitute for medical, legal or financial help.
Beej mantra — questions
What is a beej mantra?
A short mantra built on seed (beej) syllables, single syllables that tradition treats as the sound-form of a deity. Each of the nine grahas has one, and some deities have their own, such as Om Gam Ganapataye Namah for Ganesha.
Which beej mantra should I chant for my rashi?
The beej mantra of the planet that rules your rashi: Mars for Mesh and Vrishchik, Venus for Vrishabh and Tula, Mercury for Mithun and Kanya, the Moon for Kark, the Sun for Simha, Jupiter for Dhanu and Meen, and Saturn for Makar and Kumbh.
How many times should a beej mantra be chanted?
Each has a traditional total completed within 40 days. Shani's is 23,000, which is 6 malas (648 repetitions) a day for 40 days. The finder shows the total and the daily load for every graha.
Should I use my Moon sign or my lagna?
The Moon sign is what most people mean by rashi, and it is the usual choice. Some astrologers use the lagna; the sign-to-planet table is the same either way.
Can anyone chant the navagraha beej mantras?
They are published freely and commonly chanted without formal initiation, though some lineages prefer a teacher to give them. Chanting is a practice of attention, not a substitute for medical, legal or financial help.
Is there a beej mantra for Ganesh, Hanuman or Lakshmi?
Yes: Om Gam Ganapataye Namah for Ganesha, Om Ham Hanumate Namah for Hanuman, Om Dum Durgayai Namah for Durga, Om Shrim Mahalakshmyai Namah for Lakshmi, Om Aim Sarasvatyai Namah for Saraswati, each on this page with its source.
