Varshphal (varsha phala, the fruit of the year) is the Tajika system of annual charts. Each year a new chart is cast for the moment the Sun comes back to the degree it held at birth, and it is read for that year alone, beside the birth chart and its dasha.
Worked example (15 August 1990, 10:30, New Delhi): Your Varshphal year 2026–27 (age 36) begins on 15 August 2026 at 15:54. The annual lagna is Sagittarius; the Muntha is in Virgo, the 10th house of the annual chart; the year lord (Varshesha) is Moon.

The Muntha
The Muntha in the 10th house is a favourable house: favour from those in authority, a rise in standing, help to your own people. Its lord, Mercury, sits in the 8th house of the annual chart.
The year lord
| Office | Planet | Panchavargiya bala (of 20) | On the annual lagna |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lord of the Muntha (Munthesh) | Mercury | 12.11 (middling) | no aspect |
| Lord of the birth lagna | Mercury | 12.11 (middling) | no aspect |
| Lord of the annual lagna | Jupiter | 12.82 (middling) | no aspect |
| Tri-rashi lord | Saturn | 7.39 (weak) | inimical aspect |
| Lord of the Sun's sign (day return) or Moon's sign (night return)Year lord | Moon | 12.59 (middling) | inimical aspect |
Of the five office-bearers, Moon (lord of the sun's sign) is the strongest that aspects the annual lagna, which makes it the year lord. Its Panchavargiya bala is 12.59 of 20 — of middling strength, so its good results come in part. In a year ruled by Moon, the mind, the public, travel and family feeling come forward.
The Varsha Pravesh fell by day (a day return), which decides the tri-rashi lord and whether the Sun's or the Moon's sign lord holds the fifth office. Strength is the Panchavargiya bala of Tajika Neelakanthi: house, exaltation, hadda, drekkana and navamsha. Where the text grades a lord as friend or enemy we use the natural friendships of the Parashari texts; some readers grade it by Tajika aspect instead, and the two can differ.
How the Varshphal is cast
- The Varsha Pravesh. The instant the Sun, in the sidereal zodiac (Lahiri), returns to its birth longitude in the chosen year.
- The annual chart. The lagna and the grahas at that instant, for the place of birth, with houses counted in whole signs from the annual lagna.
- The Muntha. The birth lagna's sign advanced one sign for each completed year of age.
- The office-bearers. The lords of the Muntha, the birth lagna and the annual lagna; the tri-rashi lord of the annual lagna (Samjnatantra 1.61); and the lord of the Sun's sign for a day return or the Moon's for a night one.
- The year lord. The strongest office-bearer by Panchavargiya bala that aspects the annual lagna by a Tajika aspect (3rd, 5th, 9th and 11th friendly; 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th inimical). When none aspects, the planet holding the most offices.
What this page does not do
It does not print the Tajika yogas or the Mudda dasha, and it does not read the year on its own: the annual chart works inside the birth chart and its dasha, which the dasha calculator gives with dates.
Varshphal calculator — questions
What is Varshphal?
Varshphal is the annual horoscope of the Tajika system. A chart is cast for the Varsha Pravesh, the moment the Sun returns to its exact birth longitude, and read for the year that follows: its lagna, the Muntha, the year lord and the planets' houses.
What is the Varsha Pravesh?
The start of a Varshphal year: the instant the Sun, in the sidereal zodiac, comes back to the longitude it had at your birth. It falls within a day or so of your birthday, at a different clock time each year.
What is the Muntha?
A point that starts at your birth lagna and moves one sign each year, so at age 30 it is 30 signs (two and a half rounds) on. Its house in the annual chart, and the planets with it, colour the year.
How is the year lord chosen?
Five planets hold office in the annual chart: the lords of the Muntha, the birth lagna and the annual lagna, the tri-rashi lord, and the lord of the Sun's sign by day or the Moon's sign by night. The strongest of them that aspects the annual lagna is the year lord (Tajika Neelakanthi).
Is Varshphal the same as the Lal Kitab varshfal?
No. This is the Tajika Varshphal of Tajika Neelakanthi, cast from the Sun's return. Lal Kitab's varshfal is a different method that moves the birth chart's houses by a fixed table each year.
Does Varshphal replace the dasha?
No. Classical practice reads the annual chart inside the birth chart's promise and the running dasha: a year can only bring forward what the birth chart holds.
