How Foreign Settlement Is Read in a Kundli
There is no single classical yoga named for living abroad. What Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra and Phaladeepika give is the meaning of each house, and practice builds the combinations from it: the 12th house is vyaya — expense, loss and residence in distant places; the 9th is long journeys and fortune; the 7th is partners and dealings with others, read for foreign trade; the 4th is home, land and the mother, whose affliction is read as leaving the place of birth. Rahu, the outsider among the grahas, is read today as the main significator of foreign lands.

Where Astrologers Differ on Videsh Yoga
- Watery signs. Some add a watery sign (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) on the 12th or 9th house for crossing the sea. It depends on the Lagna alone, so a quarter of all charts would qualify; it is not counted here.
- Movable signs. Some read the Lagna lord or the 12th lord in a movable sign as movement. Not counted, for the same reason.
- The 3rd house. The 3rd is short journeys; this checker is about long ones and residence.
- Divisional charts. Some confirm in the D4 (property, homeland) or D12. This checker reads the birth chart.
- How many rules. The longer a list, the more charts qualify. This one is stated in full, and the result says how common your count is.
What These Indications Do Not Mean
They do not decide whether a visa is granted, which country you go to, or whether you should go. A chart describes leanings; documents, money, skills and family decide moves. Many people with no indication live abroad happily, and many with several never leave home.
